Question? Contact our COVID-19 Support Team

After your body has fought off a COVID-19 infection, dead viral matter may stay in your body for several weeks. During this time, COVID-19 tests are likely to give false-positive results. Your test may indicate that you have the illness, even though you have recovered and are not contagious. Unfortunately, this means that COVID-19 tests are of limited value in the first several weeks after you have been infected.

Our diagnostic testing is used to determine if you have been recently infected. If you do test positive for COVID-19, testing can stay positive for weeks even though you have recovered and are no longer infected, so we do not recommend re-testing to prove that you have recovered. There is a high incidence for false positives for up to 6 weeks after an infection. At Physicians Immediate Care, we will only retest a person that has previously tested positive for COVID-19 at least 6 weeks prior.

If your employer is requesting a retest, please refer to our Return to Work process.

If you have recovered from a COVID-19 infection but develop new symptoms, talk to your healthcare provider. While some providers may offer retesting for patients with symptoms, at Physicians Immediate Care we find a symptomatic approach to be most effective.

At your in-person or virtual appointment, your doctor will ask about your symptoms, take your medical history, and perform an exam if needed. Based on your symptoms, your doctor will assess your COVID-19 risk. At this time, they will also advise you on your next steps, including instructions for treatment and isolation if necessary.

An appointment is recommended for a COVID-19 exam and test but we will also accept walk-ins.  For all other urgent care services  (i.e., injuries, illnesses, x-rays, physical exams, etc.) patients can reserve their time or walk-in at their convenience.

For a COVID-19 exam and test, please follow the below instructions:

  1. Reserve your time by visiting the clinic page or the COVID-19 testing location page or you may walk-in at your convenience.
  2. Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time. Remain outside or in your car, until directed to by a staff member. Please text the clinic to let them know you have arrived. You can do this by replying to the confirmation text you received when you made your appointment.
  3. Bring your insurance card and a valid ID.

We will always try to bill your insurance first for the COVID-19 physical exam and the COVID-19 test. However, we recommend you contact your insurance carrier for exact pricing because it may vary depending on your plan.

If you decide to self-pay instead of insurance the pricing is below:

  • COVID-19 Test and Exam: $240* - Illinois and Indiana
  • COVID-19 Test and Exam: $250*- Wisconsin

*At this time, all COVID-19 tests require an exam by one of our medical providers. Additional costs may occur If additional services are required.

Due to a shortage of testing supplies, rapid COVID-19 PCR testing is available only by appointment and only for patients who do NOT have symptoms. If you are exhibiting symptoms, you will receive either a rapid antigen test or, if necessary, a send-out PCR test (results in 3-5 working days).

The Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 Molecular PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) molecular test and the antigen test both provide results in 15 minutes or less.

Testing is available at all locations in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

We will test those that need a test prior to travel.

We offer the Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 Molecular PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test for travel purposes by appointment only. This is a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) with results in under 15 minutes.  This type of test satisfies most travel requirements, please check with your specific airline carrier.
