When and Where to Get Your COVID-19 Test for Travel
Are you planning a trip? If so, you may need a COVID-19 test. Many countries currently require proof that you don’t have COVID-19 before you enter, including the United States. This rule applies to U.S. citizens returning from other countries, too.
There are a few exceptions to the testing requirement. One example is if you get a negative test in the U.S., and travel and return within three days of the test. In this case, the test taken in the U.S. will be accepted and you won’t have to take a COVID-19 test in the country you visited. For full, up-to-date requirements on entering and re-entering the U.S., check the Centers for Disease Control website before you travel.
You will most likely need to get tested within 72 hours (three days) of your scheduled departure. This is a common requirement of many countries and some states. Remember to check the rules of each country or state you’re visiting before you leave.
