Treating Walking Pneumonia

Pneumonia occurs when a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection affects the lungs, causing air sacs within the lungs to become filled with fluid.

In most cases, these troublesome symptoms aren’t life-threatening so Physicians Immediate Care can provide comprehensive medical care for these patients.

Certain groups, including very young children, people older than 65, and those with compromised immune systems, may be at greater risk for severe complications from pneumonia and may need to go to the hospital for pneumonia treatment.

Symptoms
Symptoms of pneumonia can include:

  • Coughing
  • Chest pain when breathing or coughing
  • General fatigue
  • Fever (potentially accompanied by chills, shaking, or sweating)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Treatment
The first step of treating walking pneumonia includes diagnosing the condition and determining whether it was caused by a bacteria, virus, or fungus.

Most pneumonia cases are related to bacterial infections, so we may prescribe you antibiotics to address the infection itself. Additionally, our physicians may recommend or prescribe other medications to help you cope with the associated symptoms.
